Red carpet events have never been something I would consider the norm. Neither has it ever been something I aspire to do. Yet as the car pulls up and Ethan steps out, I can’t help but feel a little awestruck.

There is an actual red carpet, as well as sponsorship backdrops, TV crews, and more paparazzi than I have ever seen in my life. Names are being shouted out at such a rapid speed, it feels like gunfire. A shiver runs down my back and it makes me pity artists and celebrities who have to do this all the time. There isn’t a single thing about it that appeals to me.

Ethan’s hand rubs my lower back assuredly as he guides me through the throng of people. The mere feel of him is a soothing presence. Not to mention the fact that he looks so damn sexy in a crisp, dark blue suit, the colour so deep and rich it sets off the faint salt and pepper in his hair. And I’m not the only one noticing how alluring he looks. Some women may feel insecure or uncomfortable having other people checking out their partner, undressing them with their eyes. Yet with the way Ethan looks at me, all it does is make me realise just how lucky I am. He is mine and I am his.

Most of the other guests around me are focusing on one another, mingling, socialising, networking, and the flowing drinks with a celebratory atmosphere. My eyes, however, continuously dart around, taking in the design and layout surrounding us as that’s the only reason I’m here.

“Ethan, it's absolutely amazing. I love how you’ve mixed old and classical shapes. It’s the perfect balance of old and new. I’m so proud of you.” Turning in his arms, I go up on my tiptoes and kiss him briefly.

“Thank you, baby,” he says against my lips.

When he first got hired to do this job, I think there was a part of me that was bitter about it. Like I resented the mere thought of the building. If only I knew then how things would be. How we would find our way back into each other’s lives. That I would fall in love with him.
